Captivity is the most underrated state. We, human beings are stupid enough to believe that we are free. Sadly, we fail to realise that we have been treated as convicts throughout our lives. Very often, we envy that we have been awarded the ‘Gift of Freedom’ and we shall choose to avail it, in any manner of our interest.
There’s a saying, “Half Knowledge is dangerous.” However, I would say it is heartbreaking as well. Unfortunately, we do acknowledge freedom, but – under the limits.
Our greatest suffering comes when we defy going with the flow. Happiness is misunderstood with freedom unless we fulfil the norms. The moment you depart your ways from others, those Wings of Freedom are squashed by the burden of social responsibilities, love, compromises and sacrifices.
Time and tide wait for none. With each passing moment, a fraction of opportunity is lost. The worst fact is that human nature is like that of crabs. When one crab attempts to move ahead, others pull him back. That’s how our society works. No changes are acceptable. Knowingly or unknowingly, we are all the slaves of society’s fragile mentality. We tend to justify the same rules, made by none other than us. Matching the society’s standards becomes the prime objective of one’s’ life. Anyone willing to leave the track is discouraged, criticised and then discarded.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I –
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference.
– Excerpt from “The Road Not Taken”, Robert Frost, Poet.
We all are the prisoners of each other. Some are confined with love and respect while others are confined with the expectations. Think of the last time you took a stand for yourself? You have been asked to avoid risks all your lives regardless of the fact that LIFE ITSELF IS A RISK.
We do, are allowed to think but not to follow our hearts. When the time comes for action, we are listed with countless factors, which are not acceptable to the society.
“A Society where Love has to be hidden behind the walls, but Violence is practiced in broad daylight.”
The truth is we are all drowning in the sea of expectations and it will continue to choke our lungs until our last breathe.
